it s not all minimal techno in romania, as the p-balans crew ably demonstrate on this second release from local hero the holy fix. the synths come down thick and gloopy on -the void- before -slagwise- ramps up the horror tones with a perfect distillation of what makes a soundtrack pop off. this is nightmarish disco music in the vein of maiovvi and the like, and it s delivered impeccably. there is a greater focus on club tones amongst the atmospheric fx on tracks & traps though, with -quite vicious- in particular conjuring up a thrilling, madcap romp through buffed up disco techno.

opening things up, the sinister title track is a dense, winding affair built around staggered tribal patters and powered along with a brooding reese bassline. he/at’s “set openers” have become something he is known for and this is definitely one of his most dramatic. after that madness, “it’s impossible to describe the smell of a wet dog” strips things right down with subtly chaotic-timed rhythms and synth-work. kind of minimal...but not.
on the flip side, “a drama out of a crisis” is a straight-up new-meets-old techno stomper with early beltram-esq beats and modulated melodies, before the ep closes out with the rawness, “the man who made husbands jealous” is a tough acidic kind of work out with an infectious hook we think you’re going to like.

for over five years, all day i dream has been where deep and emotive meet house music. propelled by a community of forward thinking artists drawn around the scion of master curator and sunset/sunrise set specialist, lee burridge. all day i dream formally welcomes lost desert to the label with the release of lingala, a two-track collaborative effort with burridge himself, that also features junior on vocals. lost desert was picked out of obscurity after burridge discovered his music while trekking in a remote area of a long lost land. a fast forged friendship inevitably lead to the studio, and lingala’s the enrapturing sophomore result. the duo’s first project together debuted on lee’s night time imprint, get weird, earlier this year to widespread support. lingala, is a beautifully composed ten-minute sonic journey. built around a mystical lead vocal sung by newcomer junior in his native linagles the raw emotion slowly builds in intensity over propulsive basslines and deep melodic grooves . gorje hewek & izhevski’s interpretation of lingala is a markedly different affair. focussing on musical layers rather than the vocal the duo’s signature spacey atmospheres and minimal rhythmic percussion add extra strings creating uplifting moments that contrast the original’s mood.

nice price deal !!! ”rundgang” (feedback in swedish) is a track made with feedback and i would call it a.o.t’s very own and personal interpretation of dubstep with ”lyrics” that reflects his wicked sense of humor. ”woot!” on the other hand is an evil excursion in filtered frequency noises and a distorted start/stop rhythm and this is nothing for the faint hearted so brace yourself you are in for a crazy trip verging on techno. the go koyashiki remix takes remixing to another level because go has stripped ”rundgang” to it’s bare essentials and produced a very minimal and slow pulsating track that ends with sublime pianoplaying.

this year experienced the birth of frazer campbell s deeper imprint elliot project recordings. the london based label launched back in spring with a real statement piece, composed of detailed minimal, late night seductive twinkles and a drone styled techno piece. the labels projected thought process for the future is to navigate through a varied soundscape of deeper excursions and thoughtful techno. this second ep with two originals from frazer, also includes a remix from highly respected uk musician tom ellis who increases the heat on the track light with a energetic but thoughtful techno re work.
